Nominations Open for The Walter M. Manley Jr. Award
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
Broadway UCC has set up an award to honor Walter Manley, our President and long-time member. I know that many of you knew Walter and can understand what an honor it would be to receive an award in his name.
The award, called The Walter M. Manley Jr. Award, would go to an individual or a non-profit organization that intentionally develops or sponsors or behaves in ways that support diversity and Ubuntu (the bond of sharing that connects all humans). This award is to honor someone who has Walter’s attributes. We have listed those attributes we most loved and respected in Walter. Walter taught us about Ubuntu, and he himself was a living example of that spirit. We believe that people who are like him should be honored and held up for others as a model, especially in these times.
The person or group selected for the first Walter Manley Award would receive a plaque and a financial gift to further support the work.
The process is as follows. Nominations may be made by church members or friends. The nomination form is attached here. It asks for a description of the person’s or group’s activities in detail and two recommendations from others. In addition, please attach a CV/resume. The deadline is February 12, 2016. Please submit completed applications to Broadway UCC’s office, attention: Walter Manley Award, by email or post. (email: firstname.lastname@example.org?? and address)
The first award will be given in Spring 2016. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee, including members, Board members, and pastors.
